Greetings,

Happy MLK Day panther community! I hope everyone who has a 3-day weekend is enjoying the time off! We are excited to welcome everyone back tomorrow.

While it is nice to have a day off of school or work, it's really remarkable the impact that Martin Luther King Jr. had on our society. His leadership and courage created the Civil Rights Movement that dismantled legalized segregation in public spaces, workplaces and schools. His focus on educational opportunities and policy paved the way for students of all races to thrive and be successful in school and the workplace. Today is about honoring him and the impact he has had on our country and the world the past 50 years.

Although we have a shorter four day week ahead, there are many events and activities on the horizon. We hope all of our 8th grade families can make it out to the PHS Course Fair/8th Grade Parent Night this coming Thursday, Jan. 22nd. This event is at Pflugerville High School and starts at 6 pm. This is a critical time for 8th grade students to plan ahead, ask questions and be proactive with the transition process. This past Friday, the students were presented with information about the PHS Early College HS and it was great to see so many students asking very relevant and important questions. I will include more information about the Early College HS below in this post.

We are excited to host our 3rd annual multicultural fair in Spring and would love for any local business owners to partner with us as a vendor. Please reach out to Valorie Salcido if you are interested or have questions!

Here is some new information about our Panther Yearbook and the rest of the items in this week's blog post!

PHS Early College High School - Applications Due by February 28th:

When we think about the 3 E's, the Early College HS supports not only enrollment in post-secondary education, but also employment as students can look at areas to earn a certification on an accelerated path through dual credit and other options. Last year, we had close to 50 students apply, interview and be accepted into the Early College HS at PHS. The link below has specific information about the program, process and a link to complete the application. For direct contact and questions, you can reach out Luc Tran @ luc.tran@pfisd.net (Asst. Principal)  or Geminesse Scott @ geminesse.scott@pfisd.net (Counselor).

Counselor Class Visits and Choice Sheets:

Students will begin choosing classes for next school year over the next couple weeks. Counselors will go into Science classes to talk about class choices for the 26-27 school year and give student's thier choice sheets. I will communicate due dates for 7th and 8th grade choice sheets next week. This is always a quick turnaround in order for each choice sheet to be inputted into skyward. The classes students choose have a major impact on our master schedule which begins in late February, early March.

Rising 7th Graders will recieve choice sheets 01/20 & 01/21

Rising 8th Graders will recieve choice sheets 1/22 & 1/23

Please look over choice sheets with your students so they are choosing the right classes for them.

UIL Academic Meet - February 7th @ Pflugerville MS:

We are excited to host the upcoming UIL meet on our campus. Parents, we would love to have additional volunteers to help with preparations to get the school ready prior to the event. This is big undertaking and it will take a village to get everything ready to go. Please reach out to Mrs. Caldwell for questions and opportunities to help @ virginia.caldwell@pfisd.net.

The UIL District Meet is Saturday, February 7th from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at Pflugerville Middle School. Contestants should arrive by 8:30 AM and report to the assigned area in the cafeteria.

All contestants should still be attending practices and preparing for the District Meet. If you are unsure of practice times, or if you will be competing in the District Meet, reach out to your coach(es)!
If you have questions regarding UIL, please reach out to Mrs. Caldwell, PMS UIL Coordinator, via email, virginia.caldwell@pfisd.net. We will be sending more information next week! Thanks!!

Senate Bill 12 - Student Consent Forms Needed:

Parents, if you have not completed the new consent forms to allow the campus to provide instruction and services in the areas listed below, please complete these when you can. The 89th legislative session established this bill and it requires guardian consent for student participation. Thank you!

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Our records show that you have not logged into Skyward and completed one or more of your students' consent forms. It is very important that we have these permissions on file as soon as possible to comply with state law and to ensure your child can receive the services and instruction they may need. Please log in to Skyward as soon as possible and complete any outstanding forms.

As a reminder, during the 89th Texas Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 (SB 12) was passed, which requires school districts to obtain written parental consent before providing specific instruction and services. PfISD must have your consent in the following areas:

  • Mental Health Related Services
  • Physical Health-Related Services
  • Participation in School-Sponsored Clubs
  • Instruction on Abuse, Trafficking, and Violence
  • Human Sexuality Instruction (Grades 4–12 only)

Your students’ required forms can be found in the Skyward Parent Portal. To complete them, log in and select each of the tiles. Please remember that parents must complete forms for each child in the district.

When reviewing the forms, please note that clicking “Yes” to an option means you are giving permission for the district to provide that specific service, treatment, or instruction.

If you need to view the forms in another language, right-click in the middle of the page, choose “Translate to ,” and then use the three-dot menu to “Choose another language” if needed.

For more information about SB 12, please visit the Texas Legislature’s website: https://capitol.texas.gov.

Thank you for your partnership and for completing these forms promptly to ensure we comply with state law and are prepared to support your child.

Sincerely,

Estimados padres y tutores:

8th Grade Class Fundraiser:

Our Snap!Raise fundraiser kicked off on Monday, 1/12/26. Please ask your 8th grader to login to the app and let you take a look at the information they’ve added. They should have added 20 phone numbers and 20 emails (these need to be emails of friends and family, not other students). If they need help, or have not yet created their account, please tell them to see Mrs. Caldwell (D116) for help with getting their account set up in the fundraiser platform.

We need each 8th grader to participate as all of the funds raised will go toward helping pay for the 8th Grade End-of-Year Trip and the 8th Grade Formal. The more money we raise, the more we will be able to cover for the trip and the more opportunity we have to create a memorable formal for our students!

If you have questions regarding the fundraiser, please reach out to Ms. Mendoza, 8th Grade Assistant Principal, or Mrs. Caldwell, 8th Grade Math Teacher and Grade Level Chair via email at virginia.caldwell@pfisd.net.

Greetings and Happy Holidays,

As we close out the first semester, I wanted to highlight and celebrate some of our spectacular student performances last week. Our students really shined at our Band and Choir concerts, the Unipfied Dance Show and the Kickstart Belt Ceremony last week. To see the culmination of a semester's worth of hard work and skill practice is so rewarding for students, parents and our panther staff. Tremendous job panther students!!

We are very fortunate at Pflugerville MS to have such strong teachers and instructors that continue to provide high support and high expectations when working with our students. Thank you to our panther faculty and staff for pushing our students to learn and achieve great things this semester.

Parents, we are strongly encouraging students to check grades consistently and finish strong by turning in any late or missing assignments, attending tutorials and making up tests/test corrections this week. If students are hearing this message at home and at campus it will definitely increase levels of success. Thanks!

Panther PTO Family Movie Night ("Home Alone") - Tuesday at 6:30 pm (Bring your own seating!):

Panther pfamilies, our movie will start at 6:30 outside by the panther track. The votes were tallied last week and "Home Alone" was the winner! PTO will provide free hot chocolate, coffee, waters, popcorn and cookies, so bring the pfamily, chairs, blankets, etc so you can bundle up and enjoy an outdoor movie this Tuesday.

Book Fair Closes this Week on December 16th!!

Huge shout out to Mrs. Hornstein and her work in planning this awesome book fair this year. It takes a great deal of preparation, communication and coordination to make this happen. The student interest and excitement has been at a much higher level than year's past and this is all a testament to Mrs. Hornstein!

Winter Break Dates (Dec 20th - January 5th):

Students will return on Tuesday, January 6th to start the second semester. Teachers and staff will return on Monday, January 5th, for campus professional development. Parents, the front office and building will be open if you need anything before students return the following day.

This Friday (12/19) - Early Release @ 12:45 pm:

This is our last week before the Winter Holiday break. We will start our  staggered release/student dismissal at 12:45 pm. Here is the schedule:

3rd Annual Multicultural Fair - March 28th

We are so excited to welcome the panther community to our No Place for Hate Multicultural Fair in late March. Our student leadership groups will be helping Mrs. Salcido and the NPFH coalition plan and participate in this event. This is an awesome event every year and if you own a local business and would like to participate, reserve a spot now!!! Reach out to Valorie Salcido @ valorie.salcido@pfisd.net

Practice UIL Meet Results:

The 2nd place finish at the practice UIL meet last week was a strong reflection of not only the amazing skills of our students, but the time and effort put forth by of our students and UIL coaches. This was the highest finish in my 6 year tenure at PMS and students will get another month of practice before the final meet in February.

Here are the student performance results!

Nurse and Health Information:

If your child gets the immunizations needed for 7th grade, please send a copy to the school nurse - jean.nations@pfisd.net.

Medical Consent Forms - per Summer legislation, all parents must complete the medical consent form previously sent out by district in order to provide any health care to students. If you have questions about this new law, please reach out to Nurse Nations as well. Thanks!!!

Kickstart Belt Ceremony:

Mr. Fillmore presented over 100 students with their new belt last week. Students had to demonstrate determination, discipline and the many other pillars required of the program to earn this achievement. Keep up the great work panthers!

Panther Counseling Update and Schedule Changes:

Dear Parents and Guardians,
Please note that counselors will not be making schedule changes at this time unless a student is:

  • Switching between G.A.M.E. and C.A.R.E. (we already have the list of eligible students)

  • Receiving an ARD-related schedule adjustment communicated by the case manager

  • Part of a reasonable request made by the principal

Our counseling team has worked hard to ensure that all students are placed in appropriate and supportive learning environments, and even a single class change can impact a student’s entire schedule as well as the balance of other classes.

We appreciate your understanding and support as we work to maintain stability for all students.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

Winter Holiday Dress Up this Week:

Our Pfunshine/Hospitality committee has been doing great work this year and just sent out some themed days for this week. Get in the holiday spirit and dress up if you can this week!!

Panther PTO and Attendance Award Winners:

Our Panther PTO provided drinks and snacks to all students after lunch last week. Our 7th graders also earned a sweet treat as they had the highest attendance for the 2nd 6th weeks!! Thank you PTO!

Pathways to Careers Updates:

Our students recently participated in a hands-on Pathways field trip at the Austin Community College Highlands Campus, where they explored real-world careers connected to the 16 Programs of Study offered on our campus. Students engaged with industry professionals, toured state-of-the-art facilities, and made meaningful connections between classroom learning and future career opportunities. It was an inspiring day that broadened their understanding of post-secondary options and helped them envision the many pathways available to them. Here are some awesome pics from their experience!!

 Winter Choir Concert:

Here are some great pics of our Choir students at the Winter Concert Friday night. They will also be singing on campus this week and bringing lots of holiday spirit to our campus. Thanks Ms. Martin and students!!
